A short history...
Keirron Tastagh founded Adventurous Experiences to realise a
long term dream of creating a business which involved his love of
the outdoors and his passion for his home and place of birth - the
Isle of Man. Initially organising a sea
kayak symposium to gauge public interest, Keirron
began establishing the sport of Sea Kayaking on the Island,
attracting paddlers from all over the world. The symposium was to
develop to host the annual 'International
Training Weekend'.
With this foundation in place, and participation in sea kayaking
growing, Keirron then introduced other Adventure Sports which are
both his hobbies and profession. To enhance the personalised
service for his regular clients, the Adventure Club
was officially launched. Utilising natural progression through
training, Keirron designed the 'Progressive Learning Program' as the practical
structure of the club. Local long term students (and future
coaches) of Adventurous Experiences were then offered further
training and mentoring in advanced sea conditions, navigation,
leadership and coaching.
From the inception, the centre was supported by Nigel
Dennis and the SKUK
network of coaches including Pete Jones and Trys Morris. This
process; combined with external delivery of the BCU Coaching and
Leadership Awards, ensured input of new ideas and guaranteed the
high standards Keirron prides himself in keeping. As qualified
and experienced professionals, all coaches continue their regular
performance training and development in sea kayaking and other
areas of expertise.
Keirron is an experienced expedition leader, initially
completing his training and working for Nigel Dennis in North
Wales; delivering outdoor education through various disciplines.
Whilst there; Keirron embarked upon and led on Expeditions whenever
possible, including Isle of Man Youth
Expeditions, organised by veteran Youth Expedition Leader -
Lesley Sleight.
Keirron fostered Lesley's passion for positive life-changing
youth development through this medium, and carried this through
into Adventurous Experiences. And so the Youth
Scholarship Program was born. Another benefit of this
exceptional community
project is that on return from Expedition, students who wish to
follow a career in 'Outdoor Pursuits', can then apply to take year
out, working full time as Keirron's assistant. Recent success
stories are Sam Murphy and Becca Goodson - who then studied full
time at university, with employment at Adventurous Experiences
during non-term time and a full time position offered on conclusion
of their studies.
Adventurous Experiences now offer Sea Kayaking, Coasteering
sessions, Rock Climbing and Abseiling, Gorge Scrambling, Hill
Navigation, Team Building, Bushcraft and 'Survival' - to suit
individual or larger group needs. We cater for absolute beginners
as well as those with experience. Explore secret places; view the
spectacular cliffs, colourful marine caves and abundant wildlife!
Allow the view from a kayak to give you a new perspective on
life.
We ensure coaching ratios are a maximum of 4 students to each
coach and keep all experiences to a similar ratio. This ratio is
regularly lower, further aiding the delivery of our key service
areas of safety, fun and learning. Through shared experiences,
progression and journeying we promote discovery and
self-reliancy.
If you are planning a trip to the Isle of Man, we will be more
than happy to assist where possible and to share with you our local
knowledge and experience. Feel free to e-mail us with your
plans and we will help with accurate information and advice. We
look forward to meeting you and you will be assured of a warm
welcome.
We aim to offer our students experiences, courses, trips and
tuition to whatever level they aspire and if a particular aspect in
which you are interested is not clearly visible on the site
please contact
us and we will endeavour to fulfil your wishes.
