John began kayaking with Adventurous Experiences
shortly after purchasing a kayak and decided he needed to learn how
to use it!
John learnt through a combination of
Pool and Sea courses, and dedicated many a weekend to establishing
a solid platform of core skills. As a founder member of the
Adventure Club, John progressed and consolidated his skills before
moving on to join the coaching team.

John's full time job is in financial services and is also a
member of Port Erin Coastguard Rescue team. He was born and grew up
on the Isle of Man, and has built up a good local knowledge of the
island and its coastline both through his paddling experience and
his work as a Coastguard.
He loves all the various aspects of Sea kayaking, from leading
trips and coaching others to the personal challenges that the sport
brings. His other hobbies are primarily outdoor based and include
hill walking, navigation and climbing.
His personal
goals include kayaking the open crossing from the Isle of Man to
the UK, and to paddle in different locations around the world.
John led on the sea kayaking journey of the Norway 2009 Youth
Expedition, and on paddling holidays for
the Adventure
Club in 2010.
Along with fellow staff member Sam Murphy, he aims to attempt to
set the record for paddling around the Isle of Man in a double sea
kayak.
