Keirron is a BCU Aspirant
Level 5 Coach, whose passion and profession is Sea
kayaking.
He runs Adventurous Experiences, an
Adventure Sports Centre on the Isle of Man, specialising in sea
kayaking, where he is the lead coach. His brother Kelvin runs Kelvin's Tackle shop - supplying a complete
range of fishing & kayaking kit.
Keirron's other interests
include Climbing, Surfing, Scuba Diving, Coasteering,
Mountain Walking, Gorge Scrambling, Expeditioning of any
description, Woodturning and Judo.
He has paddled solo, totally unsupported, from Anglesey to the
Isle of Man (the length students will go to just to save the ferry
fare for a weekend at home). He is the youngest person
to make the open crossing of 60 land miles, the second time through
the night, where sea fog pushed his navigational skills to their
max (entertaining video footage does exist of the delirious state
of mind this can cause).
Keirron has coached kayaking in
Scotland, Norway, Canada, United States, Spain, Portugal, Israel
and Finland.
He has led groups on extended
expeditions in sea kayaks, canoes and mountain walking in British
Columbia, Norway, Ontario, the UK and the Isle of Man!
Keirron is very passionate about running a top adventure business
in the Isle of Man plus organising the annual Isle of Man Adventure
Race in June, and the Isle of Man Sea Kayak
Symposium in S
eptember. Keirron firmly believes in using high
quality kit and strives to give as low a student / coach ratio as
possible (that way everyone gets shouted at an equal
amount!). He is easily impressed by clients that bring along
cake (especially home made delicacies) and hot chocolate on
winter trips.
In May 2007 Keirron teamed up with
Jeff Norville (US) and circumnavigated Vancouver Island in
a Sea Kayaking UK Triton double kayak. They completed the 700
mile journey in just 19 and a half days (the previous record was
then 28 days in a single kayak, 26 days in a double). Keirron
and Jeff also raised over £1000 for Breast Cancer Awareness in
the process, a theme provoked by close friend Ginny Callahan and
her recent battle with the cancer. See Articles on the trip.
In 2012 Keirron Tastagh and team mates George Shaw and Phil
Clegg set off on an extended expedition along the Alaskan
Aleutian Islands, using sea kayaks as the primary means of
journeying & discovery.
