The course involves a weekday evening pool session,
typically a Thursday (1 hour) followed by a weekend ‘on
the sea’ session, for example Sunday morning (typically
2 hours) for four consecutive weeks.
Session dates can be flexible to suit the group.
Maximum instructor to student ratio 1:4
This enables students to learn new skills in
the comfort of the indoor pool, before transferring them to the
Sea environment, to practice whilst still fresh, ensuring maximum
learning.
As many of these skills form the criteria for the British Canoe
Union (BCU) 2* and 3* personal Awards, we also offer students
an assessment as part of the course.
As part of our ongoing commitment to raising
the level of outdoor skills and safety on the Island, we also
include elements of the BCU Lifeguards Canoe Safety Test. Those
who join the course with previous experience or progress quickly,
the whole Canoe Safety Award will be offered, as part of the course.
Those who wish to continue learning and paddling
with us after the course, will be invited to join the Adventure
Club. This offers great value, reduced rate sessions, progressive
learning program, and as usual we supply kayaks and all necessary
kit and equipment, high quality as standard.
