Race Format
Teams of 4 persons
Each team must have registered prior to the event (entries close
31st March) with team name, and list their team members.
- Open to 25 teams of 4 - every
competitor carries an individual dibber.
- All competitors support their team all weekend.
- Each team must enter the required number of of team members in
each race, as detailed below.
- Names of team member/s competing in each discipline
must be confirmed on the Friday evening of the
Race Weekend.
Maps with routes, control points and accurate
distances will be given at the briefing on the Friday evening.
Sea
Swim 1km
Each team must enter 1 team member.
This is a timed race with all competitors starting together.
Typically 20 - 40 minutes.
Competitors supply own goggles and swimwear. Official swim hats
provided by Adventurous Experiences must be worn. Safety cover
will be provided. A basic level of ability is required.
Sea Kayaking 9km
Each team must enter 2 team members.
This is a timed race with all competitors starting together.
Typically 60 - 90 minutes.
Competitors all supplied with SKUK composite kayaks. Competitors
must wear approved Buoyancy Aids - paddles and clothing may be
supplied with prior arrangement. Safety cover will be provided. A
basic level of competancy is required.
Mountain Biking 14km
(350m ascent)
Each team must enter 2 team members.
This is a timed race with all competitors starting
together. Typically 65 - 95 minutes.
Competitors supply own equipment. Competitors must wear approved
Safety Helmets. Safety marshals will be provided.
Hill Run 9km
(145m ascent)
Each team must enter 2 team members.
This is a timed race with all competitors starting at
the line together. Typically 35 - 60 minutes.
Competitors supply own equipment. Safety marshals will be
provided.
Useful
tips on training
Rope Climb 25m
Each team must enter 1 team member.
This is timed race with two competitors racing each time.
Typically 2 - 5 minutes.
Competitors will be lowered to the ground after reaching top and
'touching'. Safety marshals will provide safety
cover including belaying. Marshals will carry
out the competitor's dibbing' at the start and
finish. Competitors all supplied with safety equipment. Competitors
must wear approved Safety Equipment. Safety supervision
will be provided at all times.
NOTE - distances given are approximate values, and may
change to suit weather conditions on the day.
BBQ
This activity is included in the price and begins after the
prize presentation. It is not 'part of the race'.
Disciplines spread over 2 days, with the emphasis on fun and
viewing the Isle of Man from a different perspective.
Weekend 16th - 17th June 2012
Friday evening 15th @ 6pm - briefing at
Ballabrooie (Central Contol Point) -
Adventurous Experiences base (details with return of entry form).
Full course details and safety briefing - including maps and
checkpoints given to teams. Individual race numbers given out -
must be worn at all times when competing.
Saturday - 9:30am competitor meeting - weather report and
any additional info given.
Adventure Race (DAY 1) begins 10am
prompt. Program will follow schedule as closely as
posible, taking into consideration the weather
conditions.
10am - mass start swimmers from start line in the water.
Expected max duration 40
minutes to reach
dibbed finish at Fenella beach.
11am - mass start kayakers at Fenella beach, expected
max duration 120
minutes to reach
1pm - dibbed finish at Niarbyl beach.
13:30 - mass start bikers from start line off the road, expected
max
duration 90 minutes to reach
3pm - dibbed finish at Ballabrooie.
Adventure Race (DAY 2) begins 10am prompt. Program will follow
schedule as closely as posible, taking into consideration
the weather conditions.
10am - mass start runners, expected max duration 60
minutes to reach
11am - dibbed finish at Fenella beach.
11:15 - two separate dibbed starts for first two rope
climbers -
begin at Fenella beach car park, climb ropes hung from 40m crane
to
flag at top, before being lowered off.
Expected max duration 90 minutes all climbers.
12:45pm - last two climbers complete.
1pm - Presentation (Fenella Beach) - trophy, medals
and special awards.
1:30 BBQ at Adventurous Experiences Base (Ballabrooie) -
spring water and food supplied.
