SKUK Explorer series 'Round the Isle of Man Kayak Race'

An annual race around the Island, beginning Monday 26th September. Previously, the 115 km was completed by Freya Hoffmeister in 14hrs 7 mins in 2006, using a standard Sea Kayaking UK (NDK) Explorer. Touring class

John Willacy circumnavigated on 12th July 2010, measuring 62.2 Nautical Miles in 12 hours, 36 minutes, 32 seconds on a Rockpool Taran. Fast Touring Class. For entrants who do not have the requisite craft to suit either the 'fast touring' or 'touring' classes, arrangements can be made to use one for a small charge. Entry - £10 donation to the RNLI.

2012 may also see the inaugural 'Mighty Triton' double kayak category, (participants may complete times throughout the festival period).

17th - 21st September

5 day training course with optional mini - expedition

Aimed at the Improver to Intermediate paddler - a challenging sea kayak skills course, ideally including a mini-expedition. May include overnight camping and optional night paddling.

Monday is typically a planning and kit preparation day. Cost - £300, or £375 to include the weekend.

Kayaks and kit can be provided at £25 per day all events - on a first come, first served basis.

Interesting Note

'Symposium' literally means "meeting and drinking" originally referred to a drinking party (the Greek verb sympotein means "to drink together")
